Why am I a Doula?

I recognize the act of giving birth as one of the most important life events for women.

A mother will remember her birthing experience(s) for her entire life.

As a Doula I see my role as nurturing and protecting the mother’s memory of her birth experience.

My desire is that I assist each woman I work with to have a safe, memorable and empowering birthing event.

My goal is to support each woman unconditionally.  I will do this by:

  • Providing physical comfort measures through her labour and birth
  • Helping with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques to reduce discomfort
  • Accompanying each woman as she journeys through the various stages of labour and birth
  • Helping her express what she is feeling and experiencing
  • Identifying the birth options available to each woman
  • Discussing steps that can be taken so each woman’s needs and wishes will be best fulfilled
  • Acknowledging each woman’s strength.

In May 2016 I completed the CPR-C/AED program in accordance with the current ILCOR buidelines & Lifesaving Society standards.
